Reflective Learning

profile

Throughout my time at ICL I recorded my personal reflections alongside the essential lessons I learned during my journey. My academic experiences combined with collaborative projects and skill development have shaped my professional and personal growth as I get ready to pursue a technical leadership position in New Zealand.

Project Management

The Project Management course emerged as the most influential learning experience during my time at ICL. My work with practical exercises and case studies enabled me to master project structuring, leadership, and delivery techniques using established methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall. My study of project lifecycles alongside risk management and stakeholder engagement enabled my transition from technical execution to strategic planning.

The expertise I gained proved essential in my position overseeing CRM development projects. During my recent CRM reporting automation project I utilized both scope definition and timeboxing techniques. Through the division of tasks into smaller sprints paired with clear milestone definitions, I achieved more effective team guidance and delivered the project before the scheduled deadline. Through the introduction of daily stand-ups I succeeded in enhancing both transparency and accountability within the team members.

My intention involves enhancing this skill through obtaining a Scrum Master certification while applying tools such as Jira and Trello in a more structured manner. In my pursuit of a Technical Lead position in New Zealand, mastering project management skills becomes crucial to harmonize technical outputs with stakeholder demands while coordinating team efforts.

Professionalism Skills

Various ICL courses emphasized professionalism which prompted me to consider how accountability, ethics, and workplace etiquette apply in both academic and professional contexts. Professional behavior encompasses more than just deadline adherence because it involves demonstrating integrity, reliability, and sustaining excellence across all tasks.

Through this learning process I modified my approaches to managing interactions with both clients and vendors. I now dispatch project status updates regularly without prompting while openly recognizing team contributions and maintaining clear process documentation. The adoption of these practices has enhanced stakeholder trust while minimizing communication errors throughout project execution.

The emphasis on transparency, respect, and responsibility in New Zealand’s workplace culture means that maintaining professional standards will enable me to integrate smoothly and build credibility. My commitment to advancing this area involves ongoing feedback collection and best practice observation from the teams I collaborate with.

Teamwork

My academic journey at ICL involved numerous group projects where I developed skills in teamwork, collaboration, and shared accountability. My experiences demonstrated that achieving success relies on team members’ communication, delegation, and mutual support skills alongside their technical abilities.

In my experiences, one crucial lesson emerged about how essential it is for team members to understand their roles clearly while maintaining mutual respect. In our group presentation on IT solutions we assigned tasks from the start and maintained weekly check-ins while offering mutual support during peak periods. Through this collaborative approach we managed to produce a project that stands as both professional and unified.

The skills I developed now apply effectively to my current position where I collaborate frequently with cross-functional teams from marketing, sales, and analytics departments. Defining roles explicitly while prioritizing active listening to team feedback and celebrating collective achievements now stands as my main focus. My move into leadership positions mandates the development of robust team cultures as essential for achieving high-performance outcomes within New Zealand’s diverse work environments.

Effective Communication

Various Professional courses at ICL helped me develop effective communication skills which stand as one of my most transformative abilities. The necessity of clear message structuring became evident to me alongside selecting appropriate communication channels for audiences and applying active listening methods to prevent misunderstandings.

My professional position has allowed me to enhance my communication of technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders by applying these skills. Instead of pestering them with technical terms, I now employ visuals and analogies to communicate system updates and automation benefits. The processes of decision-making and project alignment have seen notable enhancements during planning phases.

The use of precise written communication including concise emails and documented meeting notes along with progress reports helps eliminate confusion while boosting productivity. In multicultural settings such as New Zealand these practices become essential because maintaining both clarity and respect stands as a fundamental requirement. Through workshops and peer feedback I intend to develop this skill into a foundational element of my leadership style.

Time Management

Numerous ICL courses emphasized time management as a key theme due to the need to juggle academic deadlines with group projects and part-time employment. Through the application of the Eisenhower Matrix and Pomodoro Method, I developed task prioritization skills that enabled me to structure my workload approach more effectively.

My current role demands the management of multiple CRM enhancements alongside vendor communications where this skill proves extremely useful. My workflow management now includes digital tools such as Trello and Google Calendar to organize tasks while establishing realistic timelines and deep work time blocks. My focus and delivery speed saw significant improvement through these adjustments.

The advantages of diminished stress levels and consistent project results have already become apparent to me. My move into leadership demands effective time management skills to establish realistic team expectations. My intention is to advance this skill by studying Agile sprint planning and capacity estimation to achieve improved resource and time management.
